Mixing Cement -- not an easy task ---- Mezclar cemento no es una tarea fácil
After lunch, we boarded a yellow school bus to drive to the work site. When we got there, we started digging the trenches -- workers were already there. They were breaking apart the 12-inch deep trench. The 40-inch holes were already dug -- nine total. This post focus is going to be on the cement mixing.... Axel and Kamryn were especially helpful in mixing cement. They were the sole mixers of cement. Here's the recipe -- as described to me by our master mixers: All of these items are lifted up to shoulder height and added to the mixer -- which is SUPER LOUD. First: one bucket and a half of water. Five gallon buckets. The water is gathered by hand from a "river" and carried back to the work site about 1/4 mile each way. Next: Cement bag -- 46.5 kg -- 102 pounds -- into the mixer 1 five-gallon bucket of gravel/sand. Let it mix for a couple seconds in the loud mixer. Then, 4 buckets of gravel and 4 buckets of sand.
